October 26, 2007
CMEL (Chi Mei EL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Taiwanese CMO, has announced on October 24 that it will invest NT$1 billion (US$30.7 million; US$1=NT$32.6) for the expansion of a second AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode) production line. Volume production of the new line is slated for the third quarter of 2008, with a monthly capacity of 70,000 units. The second line will be used to manufacture 11- to 12-inch TVs. In addition, CMEL's existing production line will start to produce 4.3-inch car panel in the first quarter of 2008 and 7.6-inch digital photo frames in the second quarter of 2008.

Samsung SDI, which has successfully mass produced AMOLED displays in the third quarter of 2007, is planning to boost its monthly capacity of 2-inch AMOLED panel from the current 1.5 million units to three million next year.
