Three Firms to Develop Mobile Devices Leveraging TI's DLP Pico-projection
October 05, 2007
TI (Texas Instruments) demonstrated on October 3 a second-generation DLP (Digital Light Processing) pico-projector prototype at the SID (Society for Information Display) Mobile Display Conference in San Diego, California. The company also announced that Foxconn, Young Optics, and Sypro Optics have already devised plans to develop mobile handheld devices equipped with the pico-projection technology.

TI's first-generation DLP pico-projector was introduced at CTIA (Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association) in March 2007. Significantly improving on the earlier model, the second-generation prototype boasts a thickness of mere 10mm, has no fan or moving parts, and is designed with the capability to produce 8.5x11-inch images on most surfaces.

TI's new DLP pico-projector can be incorporated into various mobile devices, including mobile phones, digital still cameras, and portable media players, according to Taiwan's Economic Daily News.
