Acer to Acquire Gateway for US$710 Mln

Taiwanese Acer announced on August 27 that its board of directors has approved a US$710 million deal to acquire, a US-based PC maker, aiming to expand its presence in the United States. Via this deal, Acer is also expected to obtain Gateway's pre-emptive rights to purchase Packard Bell, a European PC maker. The Acer-Gateway deal is scheduled to close by December 2007, pending regulatory approvals. Combined PC shipment volume of the two companies is expected to top 20 million units annually.
