Taiwan-based small- and medium-sized LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel maker Wintek recently announced that it will spend NT$9 billion (US$273.3 million; US$1=NT$32.9) on a second 3G TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor) panel plant, to be acquired from Taiwan's HannStar Display. HannStar had previously sold the first 3G TFT-LCD panel plant to Wintek in September 2006. HannStar plans to exit the small- and medium-sized panel business following the sale and focus on own-brand operations instead.
