Taiwan-based Foxconn recently announced that it has signed a LOI (Letter of Intent) with the government of Naijing to build a mobile phone software R&D center in the city for an initial investment of approximately US$32 million. With an estimated workforce of more than 300, this R&D center is projected to concentrate mainly on software development as well as manufacturing and integration of related hardware. The new facility is slated to start construction by year-end 2007. Upon the completion of first-phase construction and inauguration of operations, Foxconn plans to build a 100-hectare industrial science park also in Nanjing within three years.
