Asus to Spin off Contract Manufacturing Business
July 06, 2007
Taiwan-based Asustek has announced that it will spin off its contract manufacturing operations into two companies by late 2007 as its contract manufacturing business has gradually caused a conflict of interest for its own-brand business. Following the spin-off, Asus will continue its own-brand business and the two new companies, namely Pegatron and Unihan, will provide manufacturing services for different industries. Pegatron will take charge of PC-related production, while Unihan will be responsible for production of PC cases and non-PC related devices. The spin-off is expected to take effect on Jan 1, 2008.
