NEC Plans Mass Production of Power-saving LCD Driver Chips in June
May 18, 2007
According to a Nikkei report, NEC Electronics is scheduled to start mass production of power-saving LCD driver chips in June 2007, with an initial output of 100,000 units per month. By harnessing the voltage supply to the liquid crystals and therefore enhancing their light-transmitting ability, NEC's new LCD driver chip is able to decrease the power consumption of mobile phone displays by up to 50%. NEC also plans for the utilization of such chips in digital cameras and MP3 players. Moreover, production capacity is expected to reach one million units per month within 2007.
