March 03, 2007
The Guangdong government has granted the investment plan proposed by Hong Kong-based Shen Tsai to build China's first TFT AMOLED (Thin Film Transistor Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) plant in Guangzhou's Nansha Development Zone. With an initial investment of 1.2 billion RMB (US$ 154.9 million; US$1 = 7.7 RMB), Shen Tsai's new facility is scheduled to begin construction in April 2007, and kick off operations in May 2008, churning out an expected annual capacity of two million units. The first batch of AMOLED displays will be initially used in mobile phones, further on to PCs and TVs.
