AUO, CMO to Defer LCD Production at New Plants

AUO (AU Optronics) and CMO (Chi Mei Optoelectronics) of Taiwan were reported to defer production plans at their respective latest-generation LCD plants, according to the Taiwanese Economic Daily News. Equipment makers revealed that AUO put a damper on equipment installation at its 7.5G plant, L7B in Taichung, and will postpone mass production from the fourth quarter of 2007 to 2008. Converting L7B to an 8G plant is also a possibility under consideration. As for CMO's 8G plant under construction in Kaohsiung, it will not enter production until 2009, according to the same report.
