Wintek to Buy Hannstar's 3G TFT LCD Plant

Taiwanese STN LCD (SuperTwist Nematic Liquid Crystal Display) panel maker Wintek has announced that it will buy a 3G TFT (Thin Film Transistor) LCD plant from Hannstar, a second-tier panel maker in Taiwan, with NT$6.1 billion (US$185.5 million, US$1=NT$32.9). The procurement will enable Wintek to enter the TFT LCD panel industry. In addition, Hannstar will gain a 3.1% share of Wintek with NT$900 (US$27.4 million) million. The deal is expected to be completed in October.
