Chinese TV set maker TCL has signed an agreement with Taiwanese IC design house Princeton Technology to license TCL's patented digital video backlight control technology. TCL's new technology serves to enhance the dynamic contrast of flat-panel TVs from 500:1 to 5000:1, which palliates the visual fatigue occasioned by TV viewing. Besides improving TV image quality, the technology also decreases power consumption by 30%. This license agreement marks Chinese TV makers' step from product exports to technology export.
