According to the Japanese Nihon Keizai newspaper, Hitachi is planning to boost its flat panel capacity by constructing a LCD plant in cooperation with IPS Alpha Technology and a PDP facility through its joint venture with Fujitsu. The LCD line will start construction in late 2006, with operation scheduled for early 2008, and is expected to produce one to two million units per year. The PDP plant is expected to start production in 2008, but further details about this plant were not yet announced.
