Toshiba Said to Move China's Slim NB PC Production to Japan
March 31, 2006
According to the Taiwan-based Economic Daily News, Japan's Toshiba has decided to shift the production of its slim-type notebook PCs to its Oumi facility in Japan, from the Hangzhou plant in China, with shipments from Oumi due for the second half of 2006. This adjustment was mainly attributed to Chinese consumers' preference for Japan-made PCs. Although production costs in Japan are about 10% higher than in China, the plan is expected to address consumer needs and reduce the total costs of the Oumi plant.
