Asahi to Expand LCD Substrate Capacity in Taiwan, Japan

Japanese Asahi Glass has announced that it will spend 30 billion Yen in establishing a new furnace for producing 8G LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) substrates in Taiwan. The new furnace will boost the annual capacity by five million square meters and is expected to ramp up in early 2007. Asahi Glass is also establishing a new furnace in Japan for 8G LCD substrates, with production scheduled to start in late 2006. These two furnaces will give Asahi Glass a combined annual LCD substrate capacity of 32 million square meters. Asahi expects to boost the capacity to 42 million square meters by the end of 2007.
