January 27, 2006
According to recently released figures by JEITA, domestic PC shipment volume in Japan reached 2.89 million units in the fourth quarter of 2005, up 5% year-on-year. Reasons mentioned for this growth were large capital investments by enterprises and rising sales to consumers as winter bonuses for workers increased this year. However, ASP (Average Selling Price) of PCs fell by 1,000 Yen in comparison with the third quarter of 2005, standing at 123,000 Yen in the fourth quarter, causing domestic PC shipment value to decrease by 8% year-on-year to 356.1 billion Yen.

JEITA also stated that for the full year 2005 domestic PC shipment volume reached 12.73 million units, for an annual increase of 14%, while shipment value grew 5% annually to 1,637 billion Yen. Furthermore, Japanese PC shipment volume including exports amounted to 3.2 million units in the fourth quarter, representing an increase of 6% year-on-year, and shipment value fell 6% year-on-year to 395.5 billion Yen.
