January 27, 2006
On January 25 USI signed an MOU with Abit, under which USI will acquire Abit's motherboard business with NT$350 million, obtaining its motherboard brand "Abit", patents, products, clients, and R&D staff. Following the purchase, USI has claimed it will form a subsidiary adopting the Abit brand in the first quarter of 2006. In the first half year, the new company will concentrate on motherboard production, particularly for overclocked and gaming motherboards. The deal is expected to push USI's motherboard annual shipment to 10 million units. Meanwhile, Abit will shift its main focus to network equipment and components, as well as motherboard contract manufacturing.
