Samsung, LPL 7G Lines Kick Off

In view of the upcoming Winter Olympic Games and the 2006 World Cup, Samsung's second 7G line in Asan, Korea, has started operation, processing 1870mmx2200mm substrates intended for 40- and 46-inch LCD TV panels. Samsung is planning another 1.8 trillion won for the new line in the second half of 2006 to boost its monthly capacity to 90,000 units from the initial 45,000 units, thus pushing the combined monthly capacity of the two 7G lines to 165,000 units. On the same day, LG Phillips also announced production on its 7G line in Paju, which will focus on 1950mmx2250mm substrates used for 42- and 47-inch LCD TV panels. The 7G line will have a monthly capacity of 45,000 units initially and ramp up to 90,000 units by January 2007, sufficient for 720,000 42-inch LCD TV panels.
