Sharp to Boost 20% of LCD Panel Capacity
January 04, 2006
In view of the brisk sales of 32- and 37-inch LCD TVs in 2005, Sharp has planned to inject an extra 150 billion yen to boost the capacity of its Kameyama No.1 plant by 20%, from the current 51,000 to 60,000 units per month. The additional capacity will be able to supply another 70,000 panels per month. Meanwhile, Sharp is considering shortening the mass production timeline of its Kameyama No.2 plant, which is slated for October 2006. Due to the investment for the additional output and the construction of the Kameyama No.2 line, Sharp's expenditure in LCD business is projected to reach 200 billion yen by March 2007. Sharp has also planned to boost its LCD sales to 1.1 trillion yen by March 2008, a 30% increase compared to that in 2005.
