Japanese Shipments of Flat-Panel TVs Continue Their Strong Growth

According to recently released statistics by JEITA, Japanese domestic shipments of LCD TVs in the January-October period reached 3.1 million units, up 61.8% in comparison with the same period last year. PDP TVs shipments amounted to 310,000 units, year-on-year growth of 26.5%, and CRT TV shipments stood at 3.31 million units, year-on-year decline of 27.5%. These figures show that combined LCD and PDP TV shipments in Japan exceeded those of CRT models in the January-October period. JEITA also stated that 45.1% of TVs shipped in the month of October were capable of receiving T-DMB (Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasts) signals.
