Intel Plans to End Licensing Agreement with VIA
November 18, 2005
According to a recent report in the Taiwanese Economic Daily News, Intel has decided not to extend a licensing agreement with Taiwanese VIA Technologies whereby VIA is allowed to produce embedded CPUs which are compatible with technologies used in Intel's CPU offerings. The current agreement will expire at the end of March 2006, and after that date VIA plans to supply self-developed embedded CPUs to its customers. At the moment, the company is already shipping embedded CPUs using its own FSB technology, called V4-Bus. The newspaper added that negotiations about whether to extend the licensing agreement have not yet come to a complete close.
