Minebea, Nichia Announce High-Brightness LED Backlight
October 21, 2005
The Japanese companies Minebea and Nichia recently announced they have developed what they say is the brightest LED backlight with 6,000 cd/m2, 20% higher than existing models. The companies were able to attain this brightness by using a spherical shape instead of a cubic shape for the resin, enabling light to leave the resin in a more efficient way. The backlight has been designed for a 2.4-inch LCD panel, which will consume 20% less power than existing models of the same size because of the increased brightness.
