APDC Boosts PDP Luminance to 5.7 Lumens per Watt
October 13, 2005
APDC (Advanced PDP Development Center) in Japan has successfully boosted the luminance of an 11-inch display prototype to 5.7 lumens per watt and that of a 43-inch prototype to 3.5 lumens per watt. By simplifying gas discharge mechanisms, fluorescent materials, and driving circuitry to achieve 5 lumens per watt, APDC expects to reduce the power consumption of a 40-inch panel from 390 watts to 100 watts. Meanwhile, APDC is developing a new production process that saves two-thirds of energy in manufacturing panels, with plans to cut the energy for producing one panel from 250kWh to 80kWh. With a governmental subsidy, APDC intends to complete their low power consumption next-generation PDP project in March 2006 and then deliver the technologies to PDP makers and related companies.
