September 23, 2005
In order to address demand for LCD TVs aroused by the World Cup 2006 in Germany, Japan's IPS Alpha, a joint venture of Hitachi, Toshiba, and Panasonic, is planning to complete the construction of their LCD panel plant in Mobara, Chiba Prefecture, Japan ahead of schedule. The plant, to start operation in the second quarter of 2006, will focus on large panels for 26", 32", and 37" widescreen TVs as well as panels for 40" and above PDP TVs. Using IPS (In-Plane-Switching) technology developed by Hitachi Display, IPS' panels feature a wide view angle with consistent color and brightness, according to the company.
