Japanese '05 Shipments of Flat-Panel TVs to Surpass Those of CRT TVs
September 02, 2005
According to statistics provided by JEITA, Japanese domestic shipment volume of LCD and PDP televisions combined amounted to 2.3 million units in the period January-July 2005, while CRT television shipment volume reached 2.4 million units. It seems highly likely that the combined shipment volume of LCD and PDP televisions will surpass CRT shipment volume in the full year of 2005 for the first time ever, as has already been the case in the months of May, June, and July.

In July, Japanese domestic shipment volume of LCD televisions grew 46.6% year-on-year to 331,000 units, and PDP television shipment volume decreased 19.6% to 27,000 units due to a lack of new models by Hitachi and Pioneer. CRT shipment volume stood at 319,000 units, year-on-year decline of 32.1%.
