NEC Rolls Out Single Chip Compatible with NTSC, PAL
August 26, 2005
NEC has developed the world's first single-chip able to decode NTSC and PAL standards, allowing TV, DVD recorder, and tuner card makers to cut costs and shorten development cycles. The new chip to be marketed in September incorporates a 3-D luminance and color separator for sharp display with low noise. With this chip, NEC, which holds the largest market share of NTSC-compatible system chips, will be able to better compete against Texas Instruments, the leader in the market for PAL-compatible system chips. It also accommodates the SECAM standard used in France and elsewhere, but the separator is not compatible with SECAM devices.
