Third 5G Plant in China Ready for Equipment Installation
August 18, 2005
The third 5G TFT LCD plant in China built by Longteng has progressed to the establishment of clean rooms. According to the equipment supplier, Longteng will have their equipment installed at the end of the year. The monthly production capacity in the first phase is expected to achieve 30,000 units. Volume production is expected to start as soon as the end of 2Q 2006.

Longteng started building this plant at the beginning of 2005. Unlike Taiwanese panel plants that come with three or four floors, it is designed as a single-floor building. Because of the single-floor structure and lack of earthquakes in Southern China, the 5G plant of Longteng is made of ferroconcrete instead of steel, which not only saves material costs, but also shortens the construction to 10 months as no deep foundation was needed.

Longteng's registered capital is US$200 million, among which the investment of Kunshan Economic and Technological Development Zone comprises 51%. The initial investment of this plant amounts to US$600 million or so, which comes from more than 10 companies.
