According to an announcement by Samsung, the company expects to start operating an 8G TFT-LCD production line in the second half of 2007 and a 9G production line in 2009 at the earliest. Samsung has allotted land at its LCD complex in Tangjeong, Korea for the two production lines, and for a future 10G line as well. Competitor Sharp will start production on an 8G line in October 2006. Samsung's 8G substrates (2,160?/SPAN>2,460mm) will be slightly larger than Sharp's (2,160?/SPAN>2,400mm), with Samsung producing 40- and 46-inch panels and Sharp producing 45- and 52-inch panels.
