May 26, 2005
After a year's preparation, Chinese Skyworth launched its LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) module production lines in Shenzhen China in May 2005. This marks the completion of the first phase of the maker's two-stage, 300 million (US$36.1 million; US$1 = 8.3 RMB) LCD investment plan. 50 million RMB (US$6million) has been allocated to construct the five production lines, now capable of outputting small and medium LCD panels 1" to 8" in size, at a rate of over ten million units per year and generating close to 100 million RMB (US$12 million) in annual shipment value. The new LCD module lines support various panel technologies, ranging from MSTN (Monochrome SuperTwist Nematic) to TFT (Thin Film Transistor) LCD, or even OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode). Finalization of the second phase will bump up the plant's total LCD module capacity to the 55 million ?60 million level and total shipment value to 450 million RMB (US$54.2 million) per year. Skyworth has also inked a strategic alliance with LG.Philips and Samsung's Shenzhen division to mutually support their supply, development, and marketing in the LCD industry.
