In the third quarter of 2024, the Southeast Asia smartphone market experienced annual growth of 15%, reaching 25 million units. Oppo led the market with 5.1 million units shipped, capturing a 21% market share, followed by Samsung at 16%, as reported by Commercial Daily News on November 12. Oppo's success is largely attributed to its revamped entry-level models, the A3x and A3. Although smartphone shipments increased in Southeast Asia in 3Q, the region's average selling price (ASP) dropped by 4%, driven by an influx of mid- to entry-level models and an oversaturated market.
The Taipei-based Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC) forecasts that global smartphone shipments will reach 1.185 billion units in 2024, a 3% increase over 2023. This growth is primarily driven by a gradual recovery in market demand and the emergence of AI-enabled phones. With the global economy expected to recover in 2025, MIC projects that global smartphone shipments will continue to grow steadily, approaching levels seen in 2020.
