Apple has recently experienced a decline in its market share in China's smartphone market during June, as local competitors like Huawei have made significant gains, according to Bloomberg on July 26. iPhone shipments in China dropped by 3.1% during this period, while Android-powered competitors saw an 11% year-on-year increase. This decline has pushed Apple out of the top five smartphone brands in China for the first time in four years, despite both retailers and Apple offering deep discounts to attract buyers. China's economic challenges have also contributed to the slowdown in sales, with Huawei leading the resurgence of Android alternatives.
Smartphone shipments to the Chinese market reached 276 million units in 2023, accounting for 24% of global shipments. This number is expected to rise slightly to 280.9 million units in 2024 and to 279.64 million units by 2028, as estimated by Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC), a leading government think tank and one of the major research institutes in the Asia Pacific.
