June 27, 2024

Ericsson's latest survey reveals that global 5G users' mobile data consumption continues to surge, with 5G users consuming 2-3 times more data on average compared to 4G users, according to Commercial Daily News on June 27. Moreover, an early user survey on augmented reality (AR) technology predicts that the global number of consumers using AR devices, such as AR glasses, alongside smartphones, will double within the next five years.

Ericsson's findings show that the percentage of global 5G users engaging with AR applications daily has risen from 17% in 2021 to 38% in 2023. Telecom operators are expected to prioritize differentiated mobile network services to achieve success. With increasingly diverse AR experiences on the horizon, 5G technology will play a crucial role in Taiwan's advancement in XR application innovation.

Global smartphone shipments are projected to reach 1.185 billion units in 2024, with generative AI phones making up an estimated 11% of the total, according to the Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC). MIC anticipates a gradual recovery in global smartphone demand, fueled by new model launches, the introduction of foldable phones, and advancements in generative AI technologies in the latter half of the year, likely enticing consumers to upgrade their devices.
