MediaTek and Nvidia have recently announced their collaboration to tap into the US$12 billion infotainment SoC market by leveraging AI (Artificial Intelligence) and accelerated computing efficiency, as reported by the Commercial Daily on May 30. MediaTek will be responsible for developing automotive SoCs (systems-on-chips) and integrating Nvidia GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) chiplets, which will incorporate Nvidia AI and graphics intellectual property, into the design architecture. The jointly developed Dimensity Auto infotainment solution by both companies is expected to begin mass production by 2025, utilizing the advanced 3nm process nodes. According to MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute), global car sales in 2023 and 2024 are projected to reach 85.69 million and 90.67 million units, representing a 6.3% and 5.8% increase, respectively. Additionally, due to the net-zero policy, global electric vehicle (EV) sales are expected to reach 14.3 million units in 2023, a 40% increase compared to 2022, MIC added. Established in 1987, MIC is a division of III (Institute for Information Industry), a major government think tank and one of the leading IT research institutes in Taiwan.
