According to the Commercial Daily's report on March 16, the Market Intelligence and Consulting Institute (MIC) has observed a new trend associated with the expanding Open vRAN (virtualized Radio Access Network) ecosystem following the recently concluded MWC 2023. On the hardware side, there are more open network base station solutions targeting the private network market. On the software side, operators are paying more attention to Service Management and Orchestration (SMO) and Radio Intelligent Controller (RIC). Senior industry analyst at MIC, Kay Chung, pointed out that telecom operators are becoming more positive and proactive towards open networks, leading to the expansion of the Open vRAN ecosystem. Besides Open vRAN, Chung also mentioned that the global 5G industry is focusing on emerging product solutions, either hardware and software, that are more efficient and energy-saving, as well as 5G private networks. Established in 1987, MIC is a division of III (Institute for Information Industry), a major government think tank, and one of the leading IT research institutes in Taiwan.
