Tesla Seeks Showroom Sites in Three Indian Cities

Tesla is recently looking for locations to open showrooms in three Indian cities, namely New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, the Reuters reported on April 8. The total floor area of a showroom and service center will be in excess of 20,000-30,000 square feet. Moreover, the company reportedly has recruited an executive to lead business development plans prior to its official entry. This January, the company registered a local company in India with an aim to import and sell the Model 3 sedan to high-end customers in mid-2021 at the earliest. Last October, Tesla CEO Elon Musk twitted about his “for-sure” market-entry plan for India in 2021. Tesla has yet to respond though. Global new electric car market volume, mainly comprising of battery electric cars and plug-in hybrid electric cars, is estimated to grow by 76.8% to 4.29 million in 2021 and reach 15.4 million in 2025, according to MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute), a major government think tank and leading IT research institute in Taiwan.
