Taiwan’s CPC to Have Over 500 Electric Motorcycle Charging Stations by 2020

In response to government policies, Taiwan’s CPC (China Petroleum Corp) recently announced that it will set up an additional 216 electric motorcycle charging stations this year, along with 316 existing ones, the Central News Agency reported on April 14. Due to COVID-19, most of Taiwanese people have chosen to drive cars or ride motorcycles instead of taking public transportation. Hence, the number of new on-road vehicles grew 15.1% year-on-year to 37,279 while new on-road motorcycles increased 4.64% to 74,493 in March 2020. The number of electric motorcycles with subsidies reached 172,000 in 2019, up from 78,000 in 2018. With 1,248 electric motorcycle charging stations, Gogoro takes the highest market share of 76% in Taiwan, followed by China Motor’s 13%, Kymco’s 5% and Yamaha’s 2%. As of April 13, 19,000 electric motorcycle bikers applied for up to NT$25,000(US$833.3) government subsidies in Taiwan.
