Taiwanese PCB Makers to Spend Over USD 1 Billion on Global 5G Investment Worldwide in 2019

Taiwanese PCB (Printed Circuit Board) makers such as Zhen Ding Technology, United Printed Circuit Corp, and Unimicron, and flexible PCB makers such as Flexium Interconnect Inc and Tripod are set to pour nearly NTD 40 billion (USD 1.3 Billion; USD1= NTD 30.28) into capacity expansion and upgrade to tap the global rising demand for 5G products, the Economic Daily News reported on March 31. For instance, Flexium plans to kick off a new 5G operation center in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, for nearly NTD 10.5 billion (USD346.8 million). Unimicron has allocated NTD 8.3 billion (USD 274.1 million) for 5G production capacity expansion and upgrade while Zhen Ding Technology is set to spend the similar or higher amount on new applications related to 5G and automotive electronics this year. Tripod is expected to invest about NTD 4.5 billion (USD 148.6 million), similar to last year. United Printed Circuit Corp plans to invest NTD 1 billion (USD33 million) to upgrade its local plant with an aim to aligning with higher demand for upgraded equipment to support 5G communications products.
