HTC, Qualcomm Join Hands for Optimization of VR Mobile Devices
March 29, 2019

Taiwanese HTC recently announced that it has teamed up with Qualcomm to use the latter's XR (Extended Reality, a collective term of AR and VR) standalone and 5G smartphone reference designs for its Vive Wave mobile VR (Virtual Reality) platform, with an aim to optimize its VR mobile devices, the United Daily News reported on March 27. Under the tie-up, OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) makers are able to speed up the commercialization of Vive Wave-embedded mobile devices and deploy inexpensive AR/VR headsets to help expand XR ecosystem at an accelerated pace. The XR resolution created by HTC is to help its smartphone vendors access the Viveport XR app store while helping headsets to reduce weight by connecting to a smartphone via USB Type-C wire. Thus far, Vive Wave has been adopted in six headsets developed by Pico, iQiyi, Shadow Creator, and DPVR.
