January 29, 2019

LG and KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology) have joined hands to set up a 6G research center for the development of next generation wireless network and mobile communications, ZDNet reported on January 28. The center will be located in the complex of KAIST in Daejeon, Korea, helping LG secure the first-mover advantages in 6G by proving personnel and infrastructure support. Besides Korea, China is also set to begin 6G R&D in 2020. Meanwhile, Korea's 5G commercialization has entered a countdown stage, with 5G services to be available in March 2019. While LG plans to debut its first 5G phone at MWC in next month, its compatriot Samsung has also allocated USD22 billion for 5G and AI.
