Samsung Expands Wafer Foundry Service to Include RF/IoT and Fingerprint Sensing ICs

Samsung recently announced that it has added RF (Radio Frequency)/IoT (Internet of Things) and fingerprint sensing solutions into its wafer foundry portfolio, the Tech News reported on March 21. Other than eFlash, power ICs,, display driver ICs, and image sensor ICs, Samsung will be able to provide RF/IoT and fingerprint sensing ICs existing 8-inch fab. Samsung’s 8-inch fab is located at Giheung Province in Korea, providing wafers ranged from 180nm to 65nm. RF/IoT will come in 90nm while fingerprint sensing ICs in 180nm. Samsung's foundry division has become a separate business since last May, alongside with memory and logic businesses. The company's 7nm process is slated for launch sometime in 2018 and will be deployed in new smartphones in the second half of 2018 at the earliest.
