Sharp's New OLED Panels to Begin Mass Production in 2Q 2018

Sharp is set to mass produce OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) panels in the second quarter of 2018, with an aim to provide panels for its own-brand smartphones as well as to help Foxconn get a slice of the iPhone panel orders from Samsung, according to United Daily News on January 10. Initially, OLED panels will be mainly used for its own brand high-end smartphones this summer and further expand to other applications, such as smart vehicles. Several ten billion Yen (USD1= 111.6 Yen) have been invested into the small-scale OLED panel production lines of this new facility located at Sakai, near Osaka. According to the same source, it is ready to ship samples and start mass production sometime in April to June this year.
