HannsTouch to Expand Production Capacity on OLED Panel Spree
November 30, 2016
Taiwan-based panel maker HannsTouch (HannsTouch Solution Incorporated) plans to build a new 5.5-Gen production line for around NT$1.5 billion to 1.8 billion (US$47.0 million to US$56.4 million; US$1=NT$31.9) in 2017, anticipating to expand its production capacity by 30%, due to the rapid growth in the demand for OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) panels, reported Commercial Times on November 30. HannsTouch is currently running a 5.5-Gen fab, making touch sensors mainly for Samsung's AMOLED (Active Matrix OLED) panels. Aside from Samsung, the company is striving to earn more clients from China, aiming to boost the share of its revenues from China to around 50% next year. It is expected that Chinese smartphone makers, such as Vivo and Oppo, will roll out more products with an AMOLED screen. The new production line is slated to begin operation in the fourth quarter of 2017.
