VinaPhone Launches Vietnam's First 4G Commercial Services

VNPN-VinaPhone has officially launched its 4G network on Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam, and become the country's first 4G service provider, reported VnExpress on November 8. With its LTE-A (Long Term Evolution-Advanced) technology, internet access speeds on VinaPhone's 4G network can reach as fast as 300 Mb/s. VinaPhone plans to install more than 10,000 base transceiver stations (BTS) in the first quarter of 2017, and will increase the number to 21,000 by the end of the year. Furthermore , VinaPhone has committed to expanding 4G services to all 63 provinces with 85% coverage on average and 100% coverage in major cities. The Vietnamese government plans to increase 4G coverage to 95% of the population by 2020 according to its broadband development plan released in January.
