CHT to Spend NT$15 Billion on Network Infrastructure in 4Q 2016

Telecom operator CHT (Chunghwa Telecom) said during a conference call that it plans to spend around NT$15 billion (US$473.8 million; US$1=NT$31.66) on its network infrastructure in the fourth quarter of 2016, reported Commercial Times on October 28. While the company is expected to revise downwards its 2016 capex by 10% to around NT$27 billion (US$852.8 million), its total expenditure on mobile communications infrastructure will stay at NT$9.4 billion (US$296.9 million) as previously planned. Specifically, in the fourth quarter, CHT plans to put another NT$5.3 billion (US$167.4 million) in deploying 4G and 4.5G networks. As of September 2016, CHT has signed up over 6.2 million 4G subscribers—the largest in Taiwan's telecom market.
