The total number of service robots for professional use, including robots used for medical, agricultural, and logistics applications, sold in 2015 reached 41,100 units, up 25% year on year, with sales value growing 14% to a record high of US$4.6 billion, said IFR (International Federation of Robotics) on October 12. The industry body further forecasts that the accumulated sales value of service robots for professional use will reach US$23 billion for the period 2016-2019. By segment, medical robots will rank first, followed by agricultural and logistics robots. The sales value of medical robots is expected to total US$ 7.2 billion between 2016 and 2019, while agricultural and logistics ones will arrive at US$5.7 billion and US$5.3 billion, respectively. IFR projects that around 330,000 service robots for professional use will be sold to non-manufacturing and manufacturing sectors between 2016 and 2019.
