Acer Separates into Two Major Business Groups for PCs and Cloud
March 29, 2016

Acer has announced to split its traditional IT hardware businesses from more emerging businesses of cloud services, allowing for each group greater flexibility and independence, reported the Commercial Times on March 28. The traditional core business group will focus on notebook PCs, desktop PCs, tablets, servers, and displays while the new business group will consist of BYOC (Build Your Own Cloud), smartphones, and wearable devices. Meanwhile, Acer will establish a wholly-owned investment holding company, with an initial paid-in capital of around US$130 million, to manage the operation and investment of new businesses. The company had begun operating under the new structure on March 25.
