Taiwan Industrial Production Index Reaches New High in May 2014
June 23, 2014

According to MOEA's (Ministry of Economic Affairs) report on June 23, Taiwan's industrial production index reached a record high of 109.56 in May, up 5.19% year on year, thanks to strong demand for semiconductor, solar cell, and LED (Light Emitting Diode) products. The Electrical Components & Parts sector, in particular, grew 10.33% year on year on the back of worldwide demand for mobile device chipsets. Computers, Electronic & Optical Products sector grew 0.7% year on year, mainly due to demand for high-end camera lens used in smartphones and the recovery of desktop PC and notebook PC markets. Looking ahead to the third quarter, MOEA expects continuous growth in Taiwan's industrial outputs as the employment and consumption in Europe and United States improves and the cloud computing and IoT (Internet of Things) applications expand.
