Spreadtrum Releases First Commercial AVS Decoder Chip

Chinese wireless baseband chipset supplier Spreadtrum Communications recently released the world's first commercial A/V decoder chip based on AVS (Audio Video Standard), China's homegrown A/V codec. Leveraging advanced SoC (System-on-a-Chip) technology, Spreadtrum's AVS decoder chip - codenamed SV6111 - is designed to support both existing and future digital TV STBs (Set-Top Boxes). Moreover, SV6111 is applicable to various transmission standards, including IPTV (Internet Protocol TV), cable DTV (Digital TV), digital satellite TV, and DMB-T (Digital Multimedia Broadcast-Terrestrial).
