ProMOS, Cypress to Set Up Joint Venture for CMOS Image Sensors

According to Taiwan's Commercial Times, Taiwanese DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) maker ProMOS will team up with US Cypress to establish a joint venture for CMOS image sensor production in summer 2007, with ProMOS holding a 80% share and Cypress 20%. The R&D unit will be located in the United States, while sales operations will be based in Taiwan. Production will take place in ProMOS' Chongqing plant in China and Hsinchu plant in Taiwan, using 0.11 and 0.18 micron manufacturing processes respectively. The joint venture is projected to launch the first CMOS image sensor products as early as the end of 2007.
