April 28, 2006
Korea's MIC (Ministry of Information and Communication) has stated that it will introduce 4G technologies to its MSD (Mobile Special District) by 2010. According to the ministry's timetable for the MSD, it will introduce GSM in 2007, DVB-H in 2008, TD-SCDMA in 2009, and 4G technologies in 2010. The ministry will decide on guidelines for the MSD in the first half of 2006 and designate the location of the MSD zone in the second half of the year, with operations slated to start in January 2007. The MSD will serve as a testing area for Korean mobile communication vendors, including testing for terminals, components, systems, solutions, and digital contents.
