Vodafone Idea Secures USD3.6 B Deal with Nokia, Ericsson, and Samsung for 4G and 5G Network Expansion
September 27, 2024

India's Vodafone Idea has recently finalized a USD 3.6 billion telecom equipment deal with Ericsson, Nokia, and Samsung, as reported by Total Telecom on September 24. Through this agreement, the three leading telecom giants will supply Vodafone Idea with 4G and 5G network equipment over the next three years. Notably, this marks the first time Vodafone Idea has partnered with Samsung for networking equipment.

The collaboration aims to expand Vodafone Idea's 4G coverage from 1.03 billion to 1.2 billion people, while also launching 5G services in select markets and enhancing existing network capacity. Vodafone Idea expects this investment to enable it to offer advanced mobile services to a broader audience while improving network power efficiency and achieving significant cost savings.

In addition to international telecom equipment suppliers, Taiwanese companies also hold a prominent position in the global 5G Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) industry. Shipment volume of Taiwan's 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) CPE industry is projected to reach 37.98 million units, growing by 48.2% year-on-year in 2024, according to Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC). This growth momentum is expected to continue into 2025, albeit at a slower rate of 24.1%.
